The Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR) reported in a press release the arrival of the ARM ‘Usumacinta’ vessel at the dock of the National Port System Administration in Puerto Vallarta, with 103 elements of the Marine Infantry on board. This is with the objective of reinforcing security in the face of the violence caused by the death of ‘El Mencho’. According to the communiqué, the ship also transported pickup trucks that will be used for surveillance tasks following recent acts against businesses and material property recorded in different neighborhoods of the city. The ARM ‘Usumacinta’ is a military transport auxiliary vessel whose mission is to carry out strategic maritime transfers to fulfill the operational objectives of the Mexican Navy. Furthermore, as stated in the communiqué, it functions as a logistics platform to support naval units and the civilian population in cases of emergency or disaster. Among its capabilities, the department highlights the transport of two Marine Infantry amphibious companies with tactical equipment and organic weapons, 18 amphibious assault vehicles, and up to 2,000 tons of cargo on the tank deck. It also has a flight deck and infrastructure to operate helicopters, which allows it to expand its range of action in maritime and land operations. SEMAR detailed that in parallel to the ship's arrival, naval personnel were deployed with the support of vessels, aircraft, and vehicles to carry out maritime, air, and land surveillance patrols. It is important to highlight that this Command has also deployed naval personnel with the support of vessels, aircraft, and vehicles from the Mexican Navy, with which maritime, air, and land surveillance patrols are conducted to contribute to security.
